Construction Documentation

This course provides an overview of construction processes and related project documents. Emphasis is placed on both the legal aspect of construction-related documents and the roles played by design professionals, contractors, owners, and others involved in the industry. You learn about construction documents, project manuals, bid proposals, specifications, contracts, submittals, and project closeout. You also examine standard forms and ethics.

What you will learn
  • Drawing as a communication tool and the role of construction documentation
  • What goes into construction documents
  • Graphic standards and specification formats
  • Construction documentation and project bidding
  • Project management: project manuals, submittals and project closeout
  • Understand the process by which a set of construction documents is developed
  • Familiarity with the common drawing types contained in construction documents
  • Ability to read, interpret and utilize common graphic standards
  • Develop an understanding of common business practices (estimates, invoices, contracts, etc) as they pertain to the construction process
  • Familiarity with standard specification practices
  • Understanding of principles of professional conduct and ethics in interior design
  • Develop of design concepts through an iterative process
  • Understand principles of scale in design
  • Understand and integrate natural and artificial light into interior design
