About This Program

Parsons Pre-College Academy provides diverse classes and certificate options for students in grades 3 through 12. The classes meet on Saturday mornings for 11 weeks in the fall and spring semesters and every weekday for two weeks in the summer. A wide selection of courses are offered, on subjects including animation, fashion, graphic design, interior design, drawing, painting, cartooning, photography, and portfolio development.

Timeline to Completion: 2-week intensive in the summer and 11 weeks in fall/spring

Summer 2019: 
Grades 3-5 (half-day); $645 + fees, grades 3-12 (full day); $1250 + fees

Spring 2020: 
$483 + fees


Program Details
Designed for students in grades 3 through 12, Parsons' Pre-College Academy meets for two weeks in August or 11 weeks in the fall or spring semesters. Classes are organized by grade level. Students are divided into elementary, middle school, and high school groups. A wide selection of age-appropriate courses are offered, on subjects including animation, fashion, graphic design, interior design, drawing, painting, cartooning, photography, and portfolio development. 

Pre-College Academy Certificate
Parsons offers a certificate program for students in grades 9 through 12 who plan to apply to art and design colleges. If you are entering the 11th or 12th grade, consider enrolling in our popular Portfolio Development course, which helps students prepare artwork and presentations for college admission applications.

Parsons Scholars Program
Every fall, Parsons recruits 10th-grade students from New York City public schools for the Parsons Scholars art and design college preparation program. This program offers scholarships to talented young students from lower-income families to study design at the college level. Parsons Scholars also explore the range of art and design careers and acquire skills and knowledge that will help them gain admittance to and succeed at Parsons or any other college of art and design.

Resources & Enrollment

Registration for Summer Programs begins at 10:00 a.m. on November 13. Registration for many summer programs may be done online or through a paper form. Some summer programs require a completed application; you can review all Summer Programs here. To add or drop a course, a student must have approval from an administrator of the program in question.

All students must pay a registration fee of $40. Additional fees, including University Fee and Health Fee may incur and vary by program. These fees will be finalized by the time program registration begins on November 13. Please check back here for the most up to date information on fees by program. 

Some Open Campus Summer Programs offer the option of on-campus housing. Following your confirmation of registration, an additional letter will be sent by email with instructions for applying for housing if applicable to your program. Transcripts issued by the Registrar's Office carry the signature and seal of The New School. A transcript is confirmation of a student's permanent record at the university. Students may request that their transcript(s) be mailed to other colleges and institutions by submitting an official request to the Registrar's Office. This can be done online at or by completing the transcript request form, which is available at the Registrar's Office or downloadable from the Registrar's Office website (PDF). Standard transcript services are free of charge.
